thor-2-dark-world-posterIn continuation of the Marvel Comics movie franchise, Thor: The Dark World hit theatres this autumn. As Thor is my personal favorite of the Avengers heroes, I went to see the film for the sheer enjoyment of it (and enjoyable it was), but while taking in the entire spectacle, something in the film’s opening monologue piqued my curiosity.

Odin, Thor’s father, explains that before the present universe began to exist there was darkness. From that darkness arose the Dark Elves, bad guys who have returned for revenge. This little tidbit got me thinking about the beginning of the universe.   (more…)

Inspiration for this week’s post comes from Facebook, but bear with me. I assure you it has nothing to do with politics or meme generators. In honor of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, several virtual friends have posted real things for which they are thankful. Last week my blogging cohort posted a few gems from Hugh Ross’ thanksgiving list—one that includes gas giants and whale excrement. Oh joy!

For me, the big bang theory comes to mind when I think of features found in nature for which I’m grateful. (more…)

A casual dinner with my sister reminded me of one of her endearing (and enduring) traits—a penchant­ for sweets. You’d hardly believe it given her small frame, but she readily fesses up that she “eats dinner to get to dessert.”

In our haste to settle on the couch with a movie and nacho cheesy feast, my husband and I forgot to serve ourselves a drink. We took advantage of the previews to make a break for the kitchen. What we saw when we walked back into the living room stopped us in our tracks. (more…)
