Fallacies


In the opening scenes of Disney and Pixar’s WallE, the titular robot returns home from a full day of garbage cleanup with a little pile of treasures to add to his extensive collection. Carefully, Wall-E puts each item in its place, but a spork stumps him. Does it go with the spoons or with the forks?

It’s the first big holiday of the year (after New Year’s, that is). Stores overflow with themed decorations, and ads persuade consumers to buy their honeys a grand gift in honor of the big day.

But it’s not St. Valentine’s Day I’m referring to. This celebration involves more than one Saint—in fact, a whole slew of Saints, at least this year. Yes, folks. I’m talking ‘bout the Super Bowl—the most watched television program of the year. (more…)

Cotton candy. Perhaps the eighth wonder of the world. It’s neither food nor drink. It’s voluminous yet dissolves on contact. It offers a jolt of energy but nothing to really chew on. Though I’m more of a purist when it comes to sweets, enough people fancy the wispy concoction to make a market for it.
