iStock_000010996529MediumA couple of nights ago, my husband and I were perusing our favorite YouTube channels and caught an insightful animated clip explaining the reasons for video game compulsion. The narrator suggests that many gamers turn to their favorite RPGs or other games in order to feel valued and find purpose. In other words, video games help fill an emotional—and dare I say, spiritual—void within people.

My instinctive reaction to the video was a desire to reach through the screen and tell these people that the Creator of the universe places immense value on them, (more…)

After a long day of work, one of my favorite ways to relax is cooking dinner. Seriously. Ask anyone who knows me: I love to cook. Nothing fuels my creative juices like trying a new recipe. Shopping for ingredients, mastering a new technique, even chopping vegetables—I relish it all. My infinitely patient husband calmly endures my culinary experiments. Tomorrow I’m subjecting him to butternut squash soup in pumpkin bowls. Of course, the best part is earning rave reviews.

There are many high-quality nature shows on television these days, but none as spectacular as Planet Earth. Co-produced by the BBC and the Discovery Channel, the series took five years to complete as crew members took their cameras quite literally to the ends of the earth. The final result transports audiences to never-before-seen locations and introduces them to a wild array of animals, some almost alien. (more…)

I hear this comment a lot—and with good reason. Of the three daughters born to my parents, I’m most like my father in personality and looks.

Ancestry is an interesting thing. It’s easy to see what traits we’ve inherited from parents, grandparents, and even great-grandparents. But who else resides in our family tree? (more…)
