Ferris Bueller might not have been a good student (after all, he ditched school nine times), but his insight on life was on point. These days, work and personal schedules leave little room for us to stop and look around—at the flowers blooming, birds flitting, and passersby smiling. Finding time to savor life seems like a luxury few can afford.

Most people are familiar with John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” It’s the go-to verse for budding evangelists, the bottom rim of In–N-Out cups, and Tim Tebow’s face. Christmastime is here! For many of us, the holiday brings happiness and cheer and longstanding traditions. One that my family and neighbors participated in when I was a kid was Las Posadas (the inn). Basically a procession of “pilgrims” (neighborhood families) goes house to house asking for lodging. The residents refuse (as planned) and the journey continues until the “innkeeper” takes them in. This festivity serves as a reenactment of Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem. Plus it comes with plenty of singing, tamale eating, and piñata breaking! (more…)

The end is near—the end of one of the most successful film franchises in movie history, that is. A week from today total geek-out will recommence as the epic tale of Harry Potter wraps up. Theatres across the country will no doubt see their share of cloaks, wands, and tears. (more…)
